Illnesses can be treated using alternatives to conventional medicine. For ages, people used herbs, spices and roots as treatments for illnesses. Practicing in alternative medicine and therapy is a legit career and does not make one a quack. Below are some careers in alternative treatment that one can take up.

One career in alternative medicine is a chiropractor. Chiropractors treat skeletal problems in the back, hips and neck using a procedure known as adjustment. In most cases the chiropractor will use their hands to perform the adjustments but they can occasionally use a machine. A bachelor’s degree is not a requirement for one to be a chiropractor in most states. You will however need a Doctor of Chiropractic degree to get a license to practice. Dieticians and nutritionists are another category of practitioners in alternative medicine. The title of a dietician is a professional one that requires one to be licensed and certified. Nutritionists on the other hand, do not require licensing or certification to refer to themselves as nutritionists. The duties of dieticians and nutritionists are similar. They advise patients on what to incorporate in their diets for better health. One of the requirements for certification as a dietician is a degree. A degree is not required for one to be a nutritionist.

Message therapists are also practitioners in alternative medicine. Aching and tired muscles can be treated and relaxed using massage therapy. For one to be a massage therapist they will need an associate’s degree and be certified. The greatest benefit of being a massage therapist is that you get the flexibility to work from anywhere.

Acupuncture is another practice in alternative medicine. Acupuncture is the practice of puncturing the skin using small needles. Puncturing of the skin is believed to unblock channels in the body to cure a person of an illness. A bachelor’s degree in a science related field is required to start a career in acupuncture. You will also need to study for a master’s degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Homeopathy is another career in alternative medicine. Using herbs and other remedies, homeopaths apply the law of similars to treat illnesses. The herbs and remedies used in homeopathy are those known to cause problems in healthy people. The law of similar states that if a remedy can hurt a healthy person, it can also heal a sick person.
